easter memories from 204

I have always loved Easter. It's just a nice , simple spring-time holiday that includes a good meal, some great candy, a few Easter prizes and usually a very nice Christ-centered service at Church. Growing up I always got a new dress and some white ruffly socks and probably a new hairbow and i loved searching the house for my easter basket. Mom tried to be creative with the hiding spots but with 4 girls, good spots were usually few and far between. the dryer was a good one though--that took a few minutes to find it in there. I remember such easter prizes as sweettarts, the Footloose soundtrack, plastic eggs with money and jelly beans, etc.. etc... This year was not that different. After years of going without a new Easter dress, I finally decided to get one. Unbenounced to me, Les went to great effort to get a new dress too. I even wore a headband with a flower--i guess it's just a more updated hairbow. my dress had ruffles too so even 20+ years doesn't make that big of a difference in Easter-wear :) When i got to Easter dinner, I made Les put her dress back on so we could take the obligatory photo--thanks Matt for being the patient photographer. Les even suprised me with a few treats too--The Twilight movie, a cupcake holder and some candy--even plastic eggs with jelly-bellys. some things never change. Here are a few gems from Easter pasts... P.S. Happy Birthday Marilyn--we love you! 61 today!

not from the past, but this is what i drove behind on my way to church

circa 1988? please note the white ruffly socks with sandals, bangs and bow. unclear on why we thought being draped across the couch was an appropriate easter pose.

texas bluebonnets in the spring--lookin' good, phil

i wish this had scanned better because there are so many great things to note here:
1. emily's shoes are actually penny loafers with heels that actually had pennies in them
2. she's also sporting her young woman's necklace
3. les is sporting an "add-a-bead" necklace that we all thought were so great
4. les and amy have on dark nude hose with what I can only assume are white shoes
5. i'm not sure what my hairstyle of the day was
6. where's marilyn? behind the camera of course. we sadly have very few pics of mom in the early days
7. mom made me and lesley's dresses--i LOVED getting new dresses made by mom and i very much remember this one. i thought it was so great to pick out my own material
8. none of us have our eyes open. none.

me and les-spring '83 (yes, it's terry cloth)
mom's prized crepe myrtles--the backdrop of many a Johnson photo

good times for sure. i also forgot to note the oddly placed wheat/tare fan-like wall art in the second photo. you don't notice it unless you look for it. probably a homemaking activity. the 80s was a fantastic decade in all arenas.

You've captured two of my favorite Texas-style pictures: sitting/kneeling in bluebonnets (who doesn't have one of these?) and standing in front of crepe myrtles (my mother grew 'em too).

Love it!

This is soo hilarious to me. The details in our outfits is what is awesome. Kim- we have bluebonnet pics to last a life time and if you can imagine my dad's forced cooperation to find the perfect patch.

Thanks for going down memory lane. I think Emily's hairdo is my favorite. You and Les look great in your 2009 Easter dresses. Is the headband Anthropolgie?
